6is the Thomas Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics at Harvard University. His research has been in industrial organization, the economics of technological change and in econometric theory. He received the Frisch Medal of the Econometric Society in 1986. Ariel was elected a fellow of: the Econometric society in 1988, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2002, and the National Academy of Sciences in 2017. He was the Distinguished Fellow of the Industrial Organization Society in 2007. Ariel received the Jean-Jaques Laffont prize in 2017 and the BBVA Frontiers of Knowledge Award in 2018 (with Rob Porter and Tim Bresnahan).
